SHERMAN OAKS, CALIFORNIA
Nature-Inspired Patio
THE DETAILS:
Starting with an overgrown hillside and outdated landscaping, this front yard project transformed the area into a functional and inviting space that feels both natural and timeless. The original layout was challenging, with water runoff issues, limited parking, and minimal usable space. Our client needed a front yard that provided parking for guests and growing teens while creating a welcoming atmosphere with natural charm.
To achieve this, we designed a space that integrates seamlessly with the home’s existing mature trees, enhancing both function and beauty. Natural boulder retaining walls were built to stabilize the hillside and carve out level areas for gathering, creating an organic look that blends into the landscape. By adding a new grass area, we turned what was once unusable hillside into an accessible, peaceful space where the family can relax and entertain.
Working closely with the client, we carefully selected materials that would look like they belonged on the property for decades. Subtle color choices and thoughtful plant selections helped create a serene, nature-inspired aesthetic. With new pathways and outdoor seating, the yard now invites family and friends to enjoy the space, from sipping morning coffee under the trees.
This project transformed the yard from a problematic hillside into a multifunctional retreat that solves water drainage issues and provides ample parking, all while preserving the natural landscape’s charm. It’s now a unique extension of the home where the family can relax, entertain, and make lasting memories.
